The Art of Animating Igbo Folktales: A Creative Journey
A group of my friends and I recently took on the task of animating Igbo folktales. It is quite the journey. We are seeking to animate these folktales, including a song and make it high quality so anyone can enjoy it. It's not easy. Here is a simple breakdown of our creative journey.
First, we research the folktales, and turn them into a funny and engaging script that can be acted out.
We also get a recording artist into the studio to do a song which will be animated and be included in the cartoon like the following song below.
Then, we get voice actors who can get in the studio and perform the roles in the script.
After we have a clean recording, the animators animate the cartoon using the audio as a a guide for mouth movements and the script for direction.
Once all of that is done, we add sound effects and the cartoon is ready for production.
Making a cartoon takes a lot of time, money, people, resources and effort, and I fund a lot of this on my own with money…
