"I got to the studio, and it says Tyler Perry Studios and I was like, "wait a minute!" and then I realized I've met the first Black owner of a movie studio. Not just of a movie studio, of the movie studio that beats just about every other studio in Hollywood. He says, 'you know, I'm gonna name a sound stage after you.' Not to be a bitch or anything, but it'll never happen in LA. I'm not that to them." - Whoopi Goldberg reflecting on the impact of Tyler Perry's legacy and getting recognition through him and his work

By the end of this documentary, I was in tears. Maxine's Baby: The Tyler Perry Story premiered tonight on Amazon's Prime Video and I could not wait to watch it. I had seen the trailer a few weeks back, and was so captivated by just the trailer alone that I watched several indie documentaries about Tyler Perry on YouTube. Even though by this point, I already knew Tyler Perry's life story, the Amazon documentary was still worth watching, because it was just so well made. It had first-hand accounts from all sorts of people from industry insiders, to Tyler Perry's relatives, to the man himself. The music soundtrack to the movie was amazing. It was emotionally compelling and moving at some times and fun and entertaining at other times.
