Let us not educate African culture out of Africans...

I wrote on Twitter today:

"Let us not educate Igbo culture out of the Igbo, and African culture out of the African, because truly that is what is happening."

Somebody asked me to elaborate, and so I said:

"While education is important. The context of education must be considered in implementation of curriculum. It would be hard to speak about this briefly. However, I will say that I am an advocate of the use of indigenous languages and cultural practices in education and academia."

The fact is, there is a lot of effort being made to educate the African child, but never do they consider utilizing his indigenous language to do it. They translated the Bible to all the African languages, but nobody wants to take on the task of translating science textbooks. That is very suspicious if you ask me.

Furthermore, Igbo has indigenous scientific practices that need to be documented in Igbo language and taught systematically. Those who know about herbs, traditional medicine, metallurgy, etc.

My thoughts on this are very vast and complicated.

I will write a book on this topic in times to come.
