This is a picture of the Igbo YouTuber "Made In Igbo" who is not on the list, but if you like you can still check him out. He occasionally did used to teach Igbo on his channel sometimes.

If you are interested in learning the Igbo language, now-a-days there are a lot of resources out there. I still would not say that there are nearly enough resources compared to other languages, but there lots of them. So, just to save you some time in searching far and wide for the best Igbo language tutorials. I will list the ones I know along with describe what is the best thing about the resource. So, buckle up. Here we go!

  1. Mmuta Di Uto TV — Igbo Children’s Show — I had to put this channel first, because it is my channel. I’m one of the creators. The great thing about it is that it has English and Igbo subtitles on a lot of the videos which is a great language learning tool. Depending on how fluent you are, subtitles can really help your comprehension of a language.
  2. Learn Igbo - This channel is extremely valuable to the beginner who is looking to pick up some new Igbo vocabulary words, and learn to say some phrases. It is very well made and comes with instructional videos. The channel teaches by telling stories, repetition and writing the words on the screen. I highly recommend it!
  3. IgboVillageSquare - I put this channel third on the list, although this list is in no particular order. However, this is a very good channel for people who like to learn the formal aspects of Igbo linguistics. This channel takes special care to break down things like Igbo suffixes and how they are used, compound verbs, prefixes, auxilliary verbs and so much more. His visual aids are extremely helpful in guiding you through the lessons as well.
  4. Igbo Made Easy - The next youtube channel on the list is an interesting channel, because the personality of the channel's host really shines. The host, whose name is Prince is always smiling and having fun and he really makes it a good time for you when you are learning the Igbo language. He has a lot of visual aids and he is not afraid to try new and unusual techniques to teach the Igbo language. My favorite video is his "Igbo Tone Practice: Akwa Drill" video. That video really shows his creativity in finding new ways to ensure that people are learning Igbo.
  5. The Igbo Tutor - This youtuber posts regularly, and even livestreams sometimes as well. He has an exhaustive series of shorts that teach Igbo proverbs, and as we all know Igbo proverbs are extremely important to communicating in Igbo. Some of my favorite videos from him are his Igbo MEDICAL TERMS You Must Know Today series, because I am really a big proponent of learning scientific Igbo. He currently has 111 engaging videos to learn from.
  6. Atlanta Igbo School - Atlanta Igbo School is an online Igbo school in the United States. They teach their classes via Zoom (or some streaming platform) and then upload the classes on youtube. So, you're literally attending classes by watching their youtube channel. You hear the other students on the call participating so you really get that online classroom feel, and you can learn from other people's mistakes the way you would in a normal classroom setting. That is the beauty of this channel. Check it out, and come back and comment and tell me what you think!
  7. Igbostudy - This channel has shorter lessons. The videos tend to be around less than 5 minutes long on average, and each video covers one major concept. However, she teaches a much more intensive workshop off of youtube which she talks about sometimes. So, that is an option for those interested in going deeper with her. Her videos tend to be very simple, direct and straight to the point. So, if you don't have a lot of time to waste, she might be a good option for you.
  8. Igbo Lingo School (ILS) - I discovered this channel, because she did a series of shorts on Igbo medical terminologies. She has a lot of great shorts. So, if you like watching short form content on Igbo language, she is a great person to learn from. She also has some longer videos. But most of her videos are short, and she does most of her posting on twitter.
  9. SUBA ASUSU GI SAG-TV - This channel was started 2 years ago, and already has some great content. One of my favorite videos is the learn how to say the time in Igbo language video. In this video, she does a great job starting with vocabulary words, and then does some examples of telling the time with different clocks. It's great! Many of her videos are motivational videos encouraging people to speak the Igbo language. So, if you ever need to remember why you are learning Igbo, she is a great person who will remind you the importance of learning Igbo.
  10. IGBO TUTORIALS playlist - The next one on the list is a playlist by a YouTube channel called In Between Cultures. I did not include the entire youtube channel, because her youtube channel is actually a mixture of personal videos and these Igbo tutorials. So, she has a separate playlist for the Igbo tutorials. Her tutorials are actually very good. She has tutorials on things like Mastering Igbo with the right accent, and Igbo exercises for English speakers. She also has some familiar songs in Igbo like Silent night and Baa Baa Black Sheep. Check it out and let me know what you think!
  11. Igbo Science, Tech & Medical Lectures playlist - Lastly, I can't include playlists for learning Igbo without including one I created. This playlist is a collection of Igbo videos from around youtube where people are explaining science, tech, mathematics and medical concepts in Igbo language. It currently has 67 videos in the playlist and I add videos to the playlist whenever I come across a new video. "Why would I add such an advanced video collection to the list for learners?", you might ask. Well, what better way to learn a language than to pick up a vast array of vocabulary words from various fields of interest, right? I mean, English speaking artists sometimes learn about scientific advancements, don't they? And we all learn math and computer science too, right? Increasing your vocabulary in these areas in Igbo is a good idea too!

So, that's the list. There are a lot of other ways you can learn Igbo other than youtube, like listening to Igbo songs. Leave a comment letting me know if you would like me to make a list of the best Igbo musicians, or songs so you can have a catalogue to use on your Igbo learning journey. Ka ọ dịnụ!
